Responsive Web Design can do wonders to your online presence

Almost every new business owner these days needs a mobile version of their website. It’s practically essential after all as the number and type of mobile media has increased: one design for the BlackBerry, another for the iPhone, the iPad, netbook, Kindle etc.— and all screen resolutions have to be compatible, too. In the next few years, this design frenzy will gain new grounds of course.

In the area of Web design and development, we’re quickly getting to a point from where we will be unable to cope up with the endless new resolutions and devices that are being introduced to the market. It’s like almost every other day some kind of new device pops up and hits the market. For many websites, dishing out a website version for each resolution and new device would be impossible, or at least impractical. Then what do we do? Customize things according to a single device and suffer the consequences of losing visitors from other devices or is there another option to satisfy all?

Responsive Web design is the approach that suggests that design and development should respond to the user’s behaviour and environment based on screen size, platform, and orientation. The practice consists of a mix of flexible grids and layouts, images and an intelligent use of CSS media queries. As the user switches from their laptop to iPad, the website should automatically switch to accommodate for resolution, image size, and scripting abilities. In other words, the website should have the technology to automatically respond to the user’s preferences. This would eliminate the need for a different design and development phase for each new gadget on the market.

Why should there have to be made a custom web design for each type of user? Like Responsive Architecture web design also needs to automatically adjust on its own. It shouldn’t require innumerable custom-made solutions for each new group of users. Obviously we can’t use motion sensors or engage a robot to accomplish the job. Responsive Web Designing requires subtlety and abstractness. Again, techniques like fluid layouts, media queries, and scripts, those which can reform web pages easily, are being used and practiced. But responsive Web design is not only about adjustable screen resolutions and automatically resizable images, but rather about a whole new approach to the art of design.
